Tim Tebow to produce upcoming film, ‘Run the Race’

NASHVILLE (BP) — Tim Tebow — the Heisman Trophy winner, football and baseball player, and television broadcaster — now has another title to add to his resume: movie producer.

Tebow and brother Robby Tebow are executive producers of an upcoming faith-based film, “Run the Race,” that tells the fictional story of two brothers who are high school athletes and see their relationship tested when they seek different paths.

A release date has not been set for the film, which is in post-production. It was directed by Chris Dowling, who has been involved in other faith-based films including “Where Hope Grows” (producer, 2014) and “Priceless” (writer, 2016). LifeWay Films hosted a screening of “Run the Race” last year following the Southern Baptist Convention’s annual Pastor’s Conference in Phoenix.

“Run the Race is about so much more than football,” Tim Tebow said in a press release. “This is a story about overcoming the hard issues of life, about the power of sacrifice, the power of family, and the power of forgiveness. I love being a part of a project like this because it will impact lives, inspire hope, and even prompt action. When I read the script, I knew this was an important project to get behind.”

The movie stars Mykelti Williamson (Forrest Gump) as the brothers’ coach; Frances Fisher (Unforgiven) as their surrogate mother; Tanner Stine (NCIS) as Zach; and Evan Hofer (Kickin’ It) as David.

The movie will show what’s possible when “you run to — instead of from — the love of God,” according to a press release.

“The script pulled me in right away, and I wanted to bring it to life cinematically,” Robby Tebow said. “As somebody with brothers in a big, super-close family that has gone through a lot together, it resonated with me on a deep level.”
