LifeWay to unveil small groups emphasis

BALTIMORE (BP) — Reviews of new group Bible study materials, book signings by leading Christian authors and a screening of a new movie are planned by LifeWay Christian Resources at the June 10-11 Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting in Baltimore.

LifeWay will challenge SBC churches to start 100,000 new group Bible studies during its presentation Wednesday morning. “Every new group started in a church will have a multiplying impact on evangelism, discipleship and fellowship,” says Thom Rainer, LifeWay’s president.

Rainer will lead LifeWay’s report, which also will include unveiling the new Explore the Bible study materials and presentation of the Holman Christian Standard Bible Award, the highest honor LifeWay bestows.

Messengers are invited to a panel discussion on “Salvation and the Mission of God” featuring Frank Page, president of the SBC Executive Committee; David Platt, senior pastor of The Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham, Ala.; Ed Stetzer, vice president of LifeWay; and Trevin Wax, managing editor of LifeWay’s The Gospel Project group study materials.

The free panel discussion sponsored by The Gospel Project will be Tuesday, June 10, from 6:30-8 a.m. in Ballroom IV of the Baltimore Convention Center. Each attendee will receive a free breakfast and more than a dozen free books. Seating is limited. Pre-registration is available at GospelProject.com/SBC14.

LifeWay Films will screen a new movie by James Dobson titled “Your Legacy,” which will premiere nationwide in October. In the film, the renowned family expert will examine how to leave a family legacy of faith. The film will be shown Monday, June 9, at 9 p.m. at the Sheraton Inner Harbor Hotel’s Chesapeake Ballroom.

The SBC exhibit hall will feature LifeWay’s popular 8,000-square-foot Christian store offering a wide selection of books, Bibles and other Christian products.

A special story time for kids will be held daily at 2 p.m. in the B&H Publishing Group area featuring noted children’s authors reading their books. Veggie Tales characters Bob and Larry will appear each afternoon at 2:15 p.m. in the LifeWay Store.

Book signings are scheduled in the LifeWay store throughout the convention by bestselling authors including Dr. Ben Carson, Gary Chapman, David Platt, Tom Elliff, Jerry Vines and many more.
