NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–LifeWay Christian Resources has named Hal Hill as director of the Glorieta Conference Center near Santa Fe, N.M., effective Aug. 1.
Hill, who has served as national camp manager for LifeWay since October 2004, will direct the day-to-day operations of the Southern Baptist conference center in addition to guiding the expansion of LifeWay Camps based at Glorieta.
“Hal is the perfect individual to help take Glorieta to another level in terms of its effectiveness and scope of ministry,” said Byron Hill, national director of LifeWay’s conference centers. “He has achieved tremendous results working with LifeWay’s other camp programs and is highly experienced in camp development.”
Byron Hill (no relation to Hal Hill) said some of the signature programs to be developed include wilderness programs, youth camps and family retreats that accentuate Glorieta’s uniqueness.
“For decades people have come to Glorieta to meet with the Lord and experience spiritual growth through quality conferences and programming,” he said. “Glorieta is truly a God-placed campus with much potential.”
“We’ve seen a lot of success at the Ridgecrest boys and girls camps in North Carolina,” Hal Hill said. “What makes those camps unique is the focus on personalized, intentional discipleship. At Glorieta we will nurture this same idea and look for ways we can focus on individuals and groups while adding our own signature programs.”
In expanding the programming and developing new innovative camps at Glorieta, LifeWay will continue to place a major emphasis on Centrifuge, a youth camp that focuses on personal discipleship.
“Centrifuge has historically been the biggest and best offering for kids and young people, and we want to build on that at Glorieta,” Hal Hill said. “The signature programs we develop through LifeWay Conference Centers will compliment Centrifuge and utilize the strengths that are already in place.”
Hill replaces Steve Grassfield, who had served as general manager of Glorieta since January 2004. Hill worked in LifeWay’s church recreation department for five years before becoming director of SAMBICA Camp and Conference Center near Seattle. He returned to LifeWay in 2003 as national event planner before being named national camp manager for LifeWay Conference Centers.
He serves as a board member of the Christian Adventure Association and is an author and trainer in adventure education. A graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, he also worked for the Georgia Baptist Convention and the Brotherhood Commission and has served on staff at three churches.
