NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–Howard Gallimore, 72, archival assistant for the Southern Baptist Historical Library and Archives, died June 20 on his way home from working in the SBHLA exhibit hall booth at the Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting in Nashville Tenn.
Gallimore, 72, had walked from the Nashville Convention Center to the nearby SBC Building and had driven a couple of blocks when he died of an apparent heart attack.
Gallimore joined the SBHLA staff in 1994 after retiring from the then-Baptist Sunday School Board (now LifeWay Christian Resources) the previous year. He joined the BSSB staff in 1960 and was named manager of the E.C. Dargan Research Library in 1972.
He was the president of several library associations during his career. Before joining the BSSB staff, he had taught nearly four years at Campbellsville University in Kentucky and had served six years in the Army.
A Kentucky native, Gallimore earned an undergraduate degree from Berea College and a master of arts in education from Eastern Kentucky University. He also had attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; two grown children, Beth Taffe of San Diego and Tim of Knoxville; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 24, at Glen Levin Presbyterian Church in Nashville. Visitation at the church will be from 5-8 p.m. June 23 and 10-11 a.m. June 24 at the church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
