DALLAS (BP)– Data to help church staff search committees provide competitive salaries and benefits to prospective candidates currently is being compiled by 41 Baptist state conventions in cooperation with the Annuity Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.
The state conventions began mailing out surveys for the 2004 compensation study in January to churches to be returned to their state convention by April 15. Churches that did not receive a survey can access it at the Annuity Board’s website, www.absbc.org.
After the April deadline, the statistical information will be compiled and the survey results will be available in June.
“This valuable study will compile customized salary and benefit information for several positions within a church,” said Bob Henry, the Annuity Board’s church marketing director. “Using the demographic information of a church, the [computer] program will allow the user to identify the average salary and benefits package for a specific position and even within a geographic area.”
The program can access a report that provides data for churches of similar attendance, membership and budget.
“We encourage all churches to participate in this study,” Henry said. “In 2002 we had participation from 19,000 church staff members serving in more than 8,000 churches. The survey data is helpful for search committees and for church committees reviewing the compensation and benefit structure of its staff members.”
