FamilyNet series examines nation’s biblical roots

FORT WORTH, Texas (BP)–The biblical foundations of United States history will be the topic of “One Nation, Under God,” a special five-part FamilyNet television series premiering Jan. 30.

The series is hosted by Robert E. (Bob) Reccord, president of the Southern Baptist North American Mission Board, which operates FamilyNet.

Among the featured guests will be Peter Marshall, historian and author of “The Light and the Glory”; Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission and host of the nationally syndicated “For Faith and Family” radio show; and David Barton, president of WallBuilders, an organization that seeks to rebuild America’s moral and religious foundations.

“In order to know where you’re headed as a nation, you need to know where you came from,” said Martin Coleman, FamilyNet’s vice president of programming. “That’s why this series is so important, especially in the context of our postmodern culture in which people’s values and beliefs are easily swayed.”

Reccord and his guests discuss the state of Christianity in the United States today. They also examine the biblical roots of the founding of America and the impact religion had not only in the framing of the nation’s constitutional principles but also in the fight for independence. Panelists, including John Avant, pastor of the Atlanta-area New Hope Baptist Church in Fayetteville, also examine the influence of our country’s First and Second Great Awakenings and whether the nation is ripe for another similar movement of God.

“One Nation, Under God” will air Fridays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 12 a.m. Eastern time beginning Jan. 30 and through the month of February.

Based in Fort Worth, Texas, FamilyNet is a 24-hour television network airing more than 50 hours of original, values-based programs weekly for a potential audience of 31 million households on cable systems and broadcast stations nationwide.
