    NASHVILLE (BP) -- A growing number of institutions appear to be recommending the use of gender-inclusive language, this time extending non-gendered terms to God and expectant mothers.

    Divinity schools at Vanderbilt University in Nashville and Duke University in Durham, N.C., in 2016-2017 course catalogues encourage non-gendered language in reference to God. The guidelines are addressed to students, faculty and administrators. Read More

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- A 9-year-old boy who considers himself female is featured on the cover of the January 2017 National Geographic. The entire issue is dedicated to subjective gender identity primarily through the eyes of children while excluding biblical authority.

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- An 8-year-old girl who lives as a transgender boy will appear on tonight's (Sept. 28) episode of ABC's "Modern Family," portraying a transgender friend of Lily, the daughter of the show's leading gay couple, the series' director has announced.

    Modern Family Director Ryan Case identifies the show's first openly transgender actor on Twitter, saying, "He's 8 years old, from Atlanta, and just happens to be transgender. He plays Lily's friend Tom in this week's Modern Family." Read More

  • Target's bathroom fix falls short, boycotters say

    MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (BP) -- Target's $20 million plan to add single-stall bathrooms in its U.S. stores does not fix its policy allowing bathroom and dressing room use based on gender identity, the leader of a national boycott against the company said.

    Target announced Aug. 17 the timeline and cost of its plan to install the locking, single-toilet bathrooms for customers who feel uncomfortable using the bathroom with those who identify as transgendered. Details of the plan came the same day Target released its second quarter earnings report showing a 7.2 percent drop in sales. Target's stock dropped 3.3 percent in premarket trade the same day, MarketWatch announced. Read More
