    WOODSTOCK, Ga. (BP) -- With nearby Atlanta hosting this year's Super Bowl, the Johnny Hunt Men's Conference tapped into the football mood with a "Game Plan" theme for Christian living during Jan. 25-26 sessions that drew about 5,000 men.

  • Photojournalism conference to honor Charles Stanley

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- Charles Stanley will be honored for his use of photography in ministry during the Southeastern Photojournalism Conference Feb. 1-2 at the SBC Building in Nashville.

    Stanley, a former president of the Southern Baptist Convention, is the longtime senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Atlanta, founder of In Touch Ministries and an accomplished photographer.

    Stanley's photography is "an inspiration, and his use of the visual image to share the Gospel has impacted so many people," said conference director Bob Carey, a former president of the National Press Photographers Association. Read More

  • Pastors' Conf.: MacDonald out, Andrew Brunson added

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BP) -- Chicago pastor James MacDonald has withdrawn from his speaking slot at the 2019 Southern Baptist Convention Pastors' Conference in Birmingham, Ala., conference president Danny Wood announced Dec. 17.

    Meanwhile, Andrew Brunson, the American pastor released this fall from imprisonment in Turkey, has been added to the June 9-10 lineup of speakers, the Pastors' Conference announced in late November. Brunson will preach from Matthew 5:10 -- "Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs."

    Wood said via Twitter that MacDonald, pastor of Harvest Bible Chapel in Chicago, "contacted me personally to say he is stepping away from all outside speaking engagements for a season (including Pastors Conference 2019).     BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BP) -- The 2019 Pastors' Conference has announced eight of the speakers for its Birmingham meeting June 9-10 in advance of the Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting, with other names expected soon.

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- When attendees arrived at the 2018 ETCH family ministry conference, each discovered a small, monochromatic card on their seat.

    Over the course of the conference, church leaders assembled these seemingly insignificant cards into a giant collage that revealed a Helen Keller quote: "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much."

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- "Legacy is not what you do; it's who you develop." Todd Adkins, director of leadership development at LifeWay Christian Resources, used this phrase to summarize the 2018 Pipeline conference that drew around 600 ministry leaders to Nashville Oct. 10-12 to learn about leader recruitment and formation.

    MCDONOUGH, Ga. (BP) -- An 11-member vision team will study ways to help Southern Baptist state associations implement recommended changes including a new title and system-wide professional proficiencies for directors of missions (DOMs).

    The Southern Baptist Conference of Associational Leaders (SBCAL) vision team will research ways to help state associations implement a study team's recommendations that were adopted during the SBCAL annual meeting in June. The new vision team will report its findings to the SBCAL executive team in advance of the 2019 SBCAL annual meeting in Birmingham, Ala., June 9-10.

    Included in SBCAL-adopted recommendations are the use of the title "associational mission strategist" for all directors of missions and the adoption of certain foundational, relational and strategic proficiencies for the job description. Read More

    BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (BP) -- The Southern Baptist Conference of the Deaf celebrated its 70th annual meeting with nearly 200 people from 20 states at Brentwood Baptist Deaf Church in Tennessee. The theme was "Let go … Follow God" based on Jeremiah 29:11.

    ST. LOUIS (BP) -- The Revoice Conference for "LGBT Christians," which provoked a messenger question at June's Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting, continued to draw a range of responses from Southern Baptists as it convened July 26-28.

    Revoice states its aim on the conference website as "Supporting, encouraging, and empowering gay, lesbian, same-sex-attracted, and other LGBT Christians so they can flourish while observing the historic, Christian doctrine of marriage and sexuality." The conference is being hosted by St. Louis's Memorial Presbyterian Church, which is affiliated with the theologically conservative Presbyterian Church in America. Read More
