    LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP) -- Southern Baptist Theological Seminary trustees elected their first African American officer in the school's 159-year history by a unanimous vote during their April 16 meeting.

    The election of Alan "Keith" Daniels, a businessman from Texas and member of MacArthur Boulevard Baptist Church (SBC) in Irving, as board secretary is "another necessary step in the history of the Southern Baptist Convention demonstrating at every level of denominational leadership the diversity to which we are called," said R.     LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP) -- The Southern Baptist Convention is a "force multiplier" for local churches, noted Mark Dever April 13 during a public conversation with R. Albert Mohler Jr.

    "I became an advocate for [my church] becoming more involved in the Southern Baptist Convention," Dever explained, "not out of a sense of tribal loyalty -- not that that's bad -- but because as a Gospel Christian who wants to see the Gospel taken to the ends of the earth, I think the SBC is a force multiplier."     LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP) -- Ministers of the Gospel are instruments of God's plan to renew the world, delivering humanity from its curse, said R. Albert Mohler Jr., president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, at the school's 220th commencement exercises on Dec. 8.
