    KANSAS CITY, Mo. (BP) -- Jason Allen, president of Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, challenged graduates during the school's 63rd commencement to "guard their personal holiness and doctrinal faithfulness."

  • TRUSTEES: MBTS adds Köstenberger, renames college

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. (BP) -- Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary's trustees have elected Andreas J. Köstenberger to the fulltime faculty and announced the renaming/rebranding of Midwestern College, to now be known as Spurgeon College.

    Based upon a recommendation from their academic committee, trustees elected Köstenberger as research professor of New Testament and biblical theology during their April 9-10 meeting at the Kansas City, Mo., campus. Köstenberger also will serve as director of a forthcoming Center for Biblical Studies at Midwestern that will reflect his longtime scholarly vision of restoring biblical foundations for the family, the church and society.   • Former Midwestern President Milton Ferguson dies at 89

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. (BP) -- Milton Ferguson, 89, the second president of Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, died today (Dec. 21) in Kansas City, Mo., after a brief battle with cancer.

    Ferguson's tenure as president at Midwestern Seminary began in February 1973, and he served the seminary community in this role before retiring in 1995 at the age of 66.

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. (BP) -- With the spirit of the Christmas season as a backdrop, Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary celebrated the culmination of 135 students' hard work and dedication in its 62nd commencement exercises Dec. 9.

    President Jason Allen delivered the keynote address as the graduates joined a new generation of pastors, missionaries and ministry leaders in Kingdom service.

    Allen challenged the graduates from Romans 1:16-17 to never take the Gospel for granted. After all, he said, the Gospel had been the focus of their studies for an extended period of time, and they would now employ it in their various ministry contexts. Read More
