BGCT 'compelled' theme underscores living for ChristWACO, Texas (BP) -- More than 1,700 messengers and visitors attended the 132nd Texas Baptists Annual Meeting in Waco with a theme of "Compelled" in being equipped and encouraged to live for Christ.
Messengers adopted a 2018 total budget of more than $37 million for Baptist General Convention of Texas missions and ministries; passed resolutions on such topics as sexual harassment and assault; and, through speaking, worship, workshops and fellowship, were urged to live out the Great Commandment and the Great Commission in every aspect of their lives. Gay-affirming churches trigger BGCT responseDALLAS (BP) -- In response to messenger actions at the Baptist General Convention of Texas annual meeting Nov. 15, convention leaders will ask the BGCT Executive Board to consider withdrawing fellowship from two churches that permit practicing homosexuals to be members.

Baylor: homosexuality no longer in conduct policy
WACO, Texas (BP) -- Baylor University has deleted an affirmation of heterosexual marriage from its policy on sexual conduct as well as a specific prohibition of "homosexual acts."
A university spokeswoman told Baptist Press the revised policy will be interpreted in a manner consistent with the 1963 Baptist Faith and Message, including the 1998 amendment defining marriage as "the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime." Read More
Phil Lineberger, former BGCT president, dies
Houston-area pastor Phil Lineberger, a former president of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, died May 31 at age 69. A son-in-law told the Baptist Standard newsjournal that Lineberger "lost a battle with depression and took his own life." Read More
