MercyMe, Williams, Winans have big night at GMA Dove AwardsNASHVILLE (BP) -- Gospel music veterans MercyMe were named Artist of the Year at the 48th annual Gospel Music Association (GMA) Dove Awards Oct. 17 in Lipscomb University's Allen Arena in Nashville.
The band's frontman, Bart Millard, who wrote the monster hit "I Can Only Imagine" and the more recent chart-topper "Even If," took home the award for Artist Songwriter of the Year. Daigle again tops list of Dove Award nomineesNASHVILLE (BP) -- Lauren Daigle again tops the list of artist nominees at this year's GMA Dove Awards with five nominations. Daigle was named last year's Artist of the Year and 2015's New Artist of the Year, after topping the charts with her song "How Can It Be." She is nominated for this year's Song of the Year for "Come Alive (Dry Bones)" and four other awards.Daigle is joined in the top nominee spot by newcomer Zach Williams, whose first solo single "Chain Breaker" reached No. 1 on the Hot Christian Songs chart earlier this year and is nominated for Song of the Year. Brother-sister tally 140 years of church musicLEXINGTON, N.C. (BP) -- Tempted to skip choir practice? Maybe you should think about Mallory Carrick and his sister Katy Palmer.
Carrick, 88, led the choir at Mountain View Baptist Church near Lexington, N.C., from about 1945 to just a couple of years ago -- about 73 years.
His sister Katy Palmer has played piano and organ at Mountain View for about 67 years. She's now 82 and still playing on Sundays. Read More
