'Our Faithful God' is NOBTS centennial's musicalNEW ORLEANS (BP) -- God's enduring faithfulness throughout New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary's 100-year history is the inspiration for a musical commissioned for its centennial celebration.
While record enrollments, rapid growth and cutting-edge integration of ministry and education mark the school's history, so also do struggles brought on by an influenza outbreak, economic downturns and hurricanes.
"Our Faithful God," written by NOBTS alumni Mike Harland and Chris and Diane Machen, debuted March 8 at NOBTS' Leavell Chapel. Musicians from a dozen congregations in Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana made up the 150-member choir and orchestra featured in the evening presentation. Read More
TRUSTEES: GuideStone's 2018 year of 'new beginnings'DALLAS (BP) -- This year's 100th anniversary of the founding of GuideStone Financial Resources will be a time to glance to the past but remain focused on the ministry's future, GuideStone President O.S. Hawkins told trustees during their Feb. 26-27 meeting in Dallas.
Each year Hawkins frames the upcoming 12 months with a verse of Scripture and a theme, with 2018 being the Year of New Beginnings, drawn from Ruth 1:16–17.
In addition to the annual theme, trustees elected a new board chair and vice chair and heard reports from the Southern Baptist entity's various ministry areas. Trustees also toured the location of GuideStone's new offices, to which the ministry will relocate in late summer. Read More
TRUSTEES: NOBTS centennial funding challenge embracedNEW ORLEANS (BP) -- Trustees of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary joined with the rest of the seminary community in the celebration of the seminary's first 100 years during their fall meeting Oct. 2-4.
Trustees voted last spring to reschedule the fall meeting so it could be held during the launch of the centennial celebration Oct. 3. Board members participated in Founders' Day chapel services led by Kelley and an evangelism-focused centennial kickoff on the evening of Oct. 3 featuring evangelist Junior Hill. Read More
