    COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (BP) -- An LGBT advocacy group cites Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy's support of Christianity in opposing a Chick-fil-A vice president as a military academy symposium speaker.

    EUROPE (BP) -- Freedom of conscience won against charges of discrimination in two European high courts yesterday and today (Oct. 10 and 11), affirming the rights of a pro-life physician and a baker opposed to gay marriage.

    The latest case today set a Norwegian legal precedent on freedom for conscientious objection in the medical profession, Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) International said. The high court in Oslo, Norway affirmed the right of Christian physician Katarzyna Jackimowicz to refuse to implant in a patient an intrauterine birth control device (IUD) because of its abortifacient capabilities.     FORT BRAGG, N.C. (BP) -- A U.S. Army investigator ignored key evidence in saying a Southern Baptist chaplain was derelict in his duties for rescheduling a marriage retreat to accommodate a lesbian couple, the chaplain's attorney said.

    Army Chaplain Jerry Scott Squires refused to conduct a Strong Bonds marriage retreat because a lesbian officer planned to attend, the investigating officer identified as Major Ford said at the close of an extended investigation.

  • Army chaplain fights charge of unlawful discrimination

    WASHINGTON (BP) -- Southern Baptist chaplain Jerry Scott Squires is fighting a U.S. Army investigator's charge of unlawful discrimination for refusing to preside over a marriage retreat including same-sex couples.

    But Squires followed federal law and Army and Southern Baptist Convention chaplaincy protocol when he rescheduled a Feb. 9 Strong Bonds marriage retreat in order to involve a non-SBC chaplain, thereby accommodating the attendance of a lesbian couple, First Liberty Institute said in an April 17 letter to the Army in Squires' defense.     WASHINGTON (BP) -- A longtime municipal judge and circuit court magistrate is seeking relief from the U.S. Supreme Court after the state of Wyoming fired her for telling a reporter she believes marriage is between a man and a woman.

    Pinedale, Wyo., Judge Ruth Neely petitioned the Supreme Court Aug. 4 to hear her case after the Wyoming Commission on Judicial Conduct and Ethics forced her to stop solemnizing marriages, ending her career as a part-time magistrate. Read More

    NEW YORK (BP) -- Homosexual New York councilman Danny Dromm has urged the boycott of a Chick-fil-A scheduled to open in his Queens council district this fall, releasing an official press statement accusing the chain of supporting groups opposed to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered lifestyles.

    At an unrelated press conference, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio counseled citizens not to frequent the chain that already has two successful restaurants in Manhattan, citing the chain ownership's support of biblically based marriage, but stopped short of calling for a boycott. Read More
