    WASHINGTON (BP) -- Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt's resignation Thursday (July 5) amid federal investigations of his spending and management prompted his pastor to lament the "present ugliness" of political attacks and note the high ethical standards to which Christians are held.

    Pruitt -- a deacon at First Baptist Church in Broken Arrow, Okla., and until early 2017 a trustee of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary -- wrote in his resignation letter to President Trump that he believes "providence brought me into your service," adding, "I pray as I have served you that I have blessed you and enabled you to effectively lead the American people," according to a copy of the letter tweeted by a New York Times reporter.     WASHINGTON (BP) -- When U.S. Rep. Tom Price and Oklahoma attorney general Scott Pruitt faced Senate confirmation hearings Jan. 18, they were supported by prayers of the Southern Baptist churches they attend.

    The two cabinet nominees of President-elect Donald Trump also appeared at their confirmation hearings with endorsements from some evangelicals who did not support Trump in the presidential election. Read More

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- A group of 48 evangelical leaders, the vast majority of them Southern Baptists, has sent a letter to President-elect Donald Trump in support of Scott Pruitt, Trump's choice to head the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

    Among the signatories are 12 former Southern Baptist Convention presidents; current SBC President Steve Gaines; 14 current and former SBC entity heads, including all six current SBC seminary presidents; and 17 state Baptist convention executive directors. Read More

    WASHINGTON (BP) -- Oklahoma attorney general Scott Pruitt, President-elect Donald Trump's choice to lead the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, has drawn praise from Southern Baptists despite charges by secular media outlets, environmentalists and theologically liberal clergy that his leadership could harm the environment.

    "Scott Pruitt is one of the finest, a committed follower of Christ and Oklahoma Baptist," Anthony Jordan, executive director of the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma, told the BGCO's Baptist Messenger newsjournal.
