Baptist view of theology to mark new B&H series
NASHVILLE (BP) -- A new series of theology resources conveying a distinctly Baptist perspective has been launched by B&H Academic.
The new series, "A Treasury of Baptist Theology," is edited by Paige Patterson, president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Jason G. Duesing, provost and associate professor of historical theology at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
"With plans for over two dozen volumes, this series will feature the work of Baptist theologians and church leaders on a wide range of topics written from a Baptist perspective," Duesing said. "The vision for the series comes from Paige Patterson, and I count it an honor to join him as the 'Treasury of Baptist Theology' series editors." Read More
Patterson-Humphreys atonement debate rememberedNASHVILLE (BP) -- A 1987 debate on Christ's atonement between Paige Patterson and then-New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary theology professor Fisher Humphreys may have had "greater significance" in the Southern Baptist Convention's Conservative Resurgence than some have thought.

'Remarkable' number of women reported at SBC seminariesNASHVILLE (BP) -- "A remarkable number of young women" are enrolling at Southern Baptist Convention seminaries, according to a report delivered this week to the SBC Executive Committee.
Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary President Paige Patterson, in reporting to the EC Sept. 18, said female SBC seminary graduates are helping to fulfill a need in churches for "strong female Bible teachers." SWBTS profs address World Congress of Families“[T]itanic global contest over the nature of society and the fate of children … has now come to a head.”-World Congress of Family’s “Tbilisi Declaration”FORT WORTH, Texas (BP) -- Evan Lenow and Candi Finch from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary’s faculty were among 50-plus speakers at the 10th World Congress of Families in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia.
In a “Tbilisi Declaration,” the congress warned that “a titanic contest over the nature of society and the fate of children … has now come to a head.”
“On the one side are gathered the forces combining revolution with retrogression, novelty with depravity, and cries of liberation with a new slavery,” the declaration pointed out. “This movement elevates sexual desire and atomistic individualism to the highest of human values. It denies any natural order to human life. And it degrades children into nuisances or tools to serve adult ends. Read More
Online: Patterson & Conservative Resurgence archiveFORT WORTH, Texas (BP) -- A new digital archive, “The Paige Patterson SBC Conservative Resurgence Collection,” provides insight into the role of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary’s president in Southern Baptists’ return to their biblical heritage.
Materials in the archive at the seminary’s library include letters, pamphlets and audio recordings of conference presentations and debates significant to this period of Southern Baptist history.
