FROM THE COLLEGES: Merritt to headline 3rd West Tenn. Evangelism Rally; Finn named N. Greenville provost
JACKSON, Tenn. (BP) -- James Merritt, lead pastor of Cross Pointe Church in Duluth, Ga., will be the keynote speaker for the third annual West Tennessee Evangelism Rally March 4 at Union University.
Ernest Easley, professor of evangelism at Union and organizer of the event, said the rally aims to strengthen and equip churches in evangelism and outreach.
"My hope is that, through this rally, people in our churches across West Tennessee will become more soul-conscious, better equipped than they were before to share the Gospel and will be encouraged and inspired to do it," Easley said. Read More

Gene Fant elected as North Greenville's presidentTIGERVILLE, S.C. (BP) -- Gene C. Fant Jr. has been named the eighth president of North Greenville University in Tigerville, S.C.
Fant, 53, has served as provost and chief academic officer since 2014 at Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Fla. He was introduced as "God's man" for North Greenville by trustee chairman Bill Tyler at a Feb. 23 news conference at the NGU campus following a unanimous trustee vote. Read More
NGU leaders asked to address president's departure
GREENVILLE, S.C. (BP) -- North Greenville University officials have been asked to appear before the South Carolina Baptist Convention Executive Board Oct. 13 to explain the university's actions surrounding the departure of its former president, Jimmy Epting, in January.
Dwight Easler, SCBC Executive Board chairman, has asked the university's board chairperson and vice chairperson, along with the interim president, to attend the fall meeting of the Executive Board in order to "give explanation of actions taken, and future actions to be taken to improve accountability and processes." NGU states expectations of administration, faculty
TIGERVILLE, S.C. (BP) -- The chairperson of North Greenville University's board of trustees has issued a statement that school leaders "are expected to lead Christ-centered lives" and that current administrative staff and faculty members reflect the Baptist university's "legal, moral and ethical expectations" and are held to "the highest of standards."
