WASHINGTON (BP) -- Human dignity, as a biblical doctrine, should shape how Christians view the unborn, elderly and refugees as well as religious liberty, sexual assault and civil discourse, Southern Baptist ethics leaders told a gathering on Capitol Hill.

The expansiveness of human dignity was set forth Oct. 2 by staff members of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission in the final of three sessions this year of its annual ERLC Academy. "The Scriptures present one Christ, the Christ of history, the Christ who is. I think chasing down a Jesus who looks just like us ends up with disappointment and disillusionment. The Jesus who is is infinitely better than the Jesus we create." Read More

  • Song of Solomon: a picture of marriage, Christ

by David Roach, posted Friday, February 13, 2015 (3 years ago)

NASHVILLE (BP) -- It's probably the most popular love story ever written, but its portrayal of marital intimacy has generated no small amount of controversy.

Some Jews forbade men from reading it before age 30. John Calvin once had a man expelled from Geneva in part because of the way he interpreted it. And former Seattle pastor Mark Driscoll drew sharp criticism for using it to describe specific sexual acts. Read More
