Colo. wildfires draw multi-state Baptist DR responseLA VETA, Colorado (BP) -- Southern Baptist Disaster Relief teams from as far east as Kentucky are headed west to Colorado to help bring hope and healing to communities ravaged by fires that have consumed tens of thousands of acres and destroyed hundreds of homes.
Colorado Baptists have been serving the community of La Veta in the south-central region of the state since June 30. The state SBDR team began feeding first responders -- firefighters, forestry workers, the National Guard, police and State Emergency Operations Center personnel -- three days after what became known as the Spring Creek Fire developed on June 27 near Fort Garland, Colo., roughly 35 miles west of La Veta, according to the Denver Post. Colo. increases 80% in reported baptismsDENVER (BP) -- Colorado Baptists are celebrating an 80 percent increase in reported baptisms for 2017 and the highest reported total for the Colorado Baptist General Convention (CBGC) since 2014.
CBGC executive director Nathan Lorick announced a 73 percent increase April 2 via Twitter and told Baptist Press today (April 4) additional baptism reports have improved the percentage. Possible factors contributing to the reported baptism surge are evangelism among churches, strong church planting and an emphasis on submitting reports for the Southern Baptist Convention's Annual Church Profile (ACP), Lorick said. Colo. Baptists seek new executive director
CENTENNIAL, Colo. (BP) -- The Colorado Baptist General Convention (CBGC) is receiving applications for a new executive director to replace Mark Edlund, retiring in July after 15 years of service.
The executive director would serve a unified and healthy convention of 391 churches and church plants in one of the fastest growing states in the nation, said CBGC President Mike Routt, citing Edlund's tenure.
