  • Cancer fails to derail her work with hurting people

    DALLAS (BP) -- Since being diagnosed with cancer in 2010, a key question Becky Ellison seeks to live by is: "If I had one more minute and I wanted to live it like God wanted me to live it, what would that look like?"

    For Ellison, part of that answer involves those who lead two key ministries to hurting people across Texas -- Christian Women's Job Corps and Christian Men's Job Corps.

    Ellison, who holds bachelor's and master's degrees in social work from Baylor University, has been involved in CWJC/CMJC ministries for 14 years. She began serving as a contract consultant with Woman's Missionary Union of Texas in 2008. Six years later -- and four years after her diagnosis -- she was invited to serve as the state WMU's full-time CWJC/CMJC strategist, consulting with 56 ministry sites throughout Texas. Read More

    TALLADEGA, Ala. (BP) -- When Margaret Roland talks about the life-changing impact of Christian Women's Job Corps, she speaks from personal experience.

    Roland, a CWJC site coordinator in Florence, Ala., previously was a CWJC participant seeking to gain practical skills to better equip her for life.

    TALLADEGA, Ala. (BP) -- Why travel from South Africa to attend a ministry training conference in Alabama? For Patricia Ihlenfeldt, the answer is succinct: "to be encouraged and refocused and reenergized."

  • WMU trains job corps leaders, issues awards

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The National Woman's Missionary Union in Birmingham, Ala., hosted 2015 training for more than 160 coordinators and leaders of its Christian job corps ministry sites.

    The Christian Women's Job Corps (CWJC) and Christian Men's Job Corps (CMJC) national training offered sessions on topics including leadership styles, workforce development, conflict resolution and working with those in poverty. Read More
