    JACKSON, Tenn. (BP) -- A piece of Southern Baptist history has been moved to the campus of Union University.

    On Nov. 11, the university will open the renovated birthplace of R.G. Lee, which has been moved to Union's campus in Jackson, Tenn., from Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis.

  • Bellevue reaches $1M in Cooperative Program gifts

    BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (BP) -- Bellevue Baptist Church has become the first church in the Tennessee Baptist Convention to send $1 million through the Cooperative Program over a 12-month period.

    In early March, the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board received a check for $83,333 that brought Bellevue's total giving through the Cooperative Program to $1 million since last April 2016. Read More

    NEW YORK (BP) -- The choir from newly elected Southern Baptist Convention President Steve Gaines' pastorate sang the Gospel alongside Elvis hits in New York's Times Square on Fox TV today (June 20) in advance of their concert tonight at Carnegie Hall.

  • Bellevue security subdues 'heavily armed' man

    MEMPHIS (BP) -- A "heavily armed" man was subdued and arrested at the Memphis-area Bellevue Baptist Church Easter Sunday, the congregation's director of security services told Baptist Press.

    Texas-based church security expert Jimmy Meeks told BP the incident serves as an example of "heads-up" response to a potential threat. The man -- 31-year-old Marcus Donald -- who was taken into custody remains under mental evaluation, according to media reports. Read More
