  • Leper prays as Nepal earthquake rumbles

    NEPAL (BP) -- Miriam awoke from her Saturday nap on April 25 with a start. Since she was up, the elderly Nepali woman decided to begin her daily noontime prayer 15 minutes early.

    She lifted her normal requests heavenward -- asking God to give her husband health; watching over her adult son; tidbits from people requesting her intercession; and asking for her neighbors and her country of Nepal to know Jesus. Read More

    LONG ISLAND, N.Y. (BP) -- Crawling underneath houses to put in insulation, mudding and sanding dry wall and installing a fence are not typical spring break distractions. But for college students Makayla Campbell and Amber Wilcox those were the jobs they tackled with Southern Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers to help homeowners affected by Hurricane Sandy. Read More

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- Frank S. Page developed a respect for Billy (Jang Hwan) Kim when he saw Kim translating a Billy Graham sermon televised during the 1973 Graham crusade in Seoul, South Korea.

    Page, president of the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee, recalled the moment more than 40 years later as Kim spoke at the May 4 weekly prayer gathering at the SBC Executive Committee Nashville headquarters. Read More

  • Pizza delivery attack leads student to forgive

    LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP) -- A Boyce College student who was stabbed and carjacked outside an emergency room while making a pizza delivery says he forgives his attacker.

    Josh Lewis, 19, has been employed at Spinelli's Pizzeria since last August and is a sophomore at Boyce, the undergraduate school of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. While delivering a pizza to the emergency room downtown at Norton Hospital on Sunday (May 3), he says a man confronted him outside his car and demanded his keys. When Lewis noticed the man had a knife, he dropped the keys and ran toward the hospital. But Lewis says the man caught up with him and stabbed him in the back before taking off with his black Jeep Cherokee and the pizza inside the car. Read More
