  • Ebola kills 6 in Baptist woman's family

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- A Southern Baptist who emigrated from Liberia has lost six family members to the West African Ebola outbreak, she told Baptist Press. Medication, food and prayer, she says, are most needed to stem the epidemic.

    An aunt, uncle and four adult cousins of 55-year-old Juanita Logan, a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Nashville, died in mid-August from the disease. The six family members all lived in the same Liberian household, Logan said, and had spoken to her on the phone just two weeks before their deaths. Read More

    SPRINGDALE, Ark. (BP) -- Extending to Hispanic Baptists his call to prayer for spiritual awakening, SBC President Ronnie Floyd has released a Spanish-language video urging "an unprecedented attempt and strong effort" to reach the nation's largest ethnic population for Christ.

    In the two-minute video, a translator conveys Floyd's message from English. Also, at the bottom of the screen, the text of his message is displayed in English. Read More

    TACLOBAN, Philippines (BP) -- A crushing wall of water from Typhoon Haiyan hit the city of Tacloban on Nov. 8, 2013. Thousands of people perished. Homes and businesses were destroyed.

    The water beached cargo ships weighing several hundred tons and devastated Tacloban.
