CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (BP) -- On the one-year anniversary of white nationalist protests that left three people dead in Charlottesville, Va., area believers plan to counter any resurgence of racism with worship and repentance.

In Washington -- where white nationalists are planning a first-anniversary repeat of their Aug. 12, 2017, Unite the Right rally -- police are on high alert, and Christians are requesting heightened prayer.

Marshal Ausberry, president of the National African American Fellowship of the Southern Baptist Convention, said D.C. and Virginia believers will engage in "a lot of reflection and a lot of praying this weekend" for safety and harmony at rallies and other public gatherings. Read More

DAVIS, Okla. (BP) -- Bill Noe kept using the word "home."

Apparently, it was the best word to describe Falls Creek Baptist Conference Center, which hosted Collegiate Week, Aug. 5-9, an annual event sponsored by LifeWay Christian Resources. As LifeWay's national collegiate ministry specialist, Noe serves as Collegiate Week's program director.

"As I started talking to Falls Creek leadership, it became increasingly apparent that this probably could work out, and it would be a great home," Noe said when asked about the process of moving Collegiate Week, which had a long history of meeting at Glorieta Conference Center in Glorieta, N.M. "Just every conversation, every visit, every step along the way made it more and more obvious that (Falls Creek) would be the perfect home for Collegiate Week." Read More

DALLAS (BP) -- GuideStone Financial Resources has secured a conclusive victory in its lengthy, legal battle against the Obama-era abortion/contraception mandate.

A federal judge in Oklahoma issued a final judgment July 17 in favor of the Southern Baptist Convention's health and financial benefits entity, as well as ministries it serves, GuideStone reported Aug. 8. The ruling brought to an end GuideStone's challenge of a 2011 rule issued by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that helped implement a controversial health-care law enacted the previous year. The regulation required employers to provide their workers with coverage for contraceptives, including those that can potentially induce abortions, or face potentially devastating fines. Read More

NEW YORK (BP) -- Marking the 100th anniversary of GuideStone Financial Resources, the Southern Baptist entity's trustees gathered July 30–31 in regular session to hear ministry reports from its executive leadership team and staff.
