FORT WORTH, Texas (BP) -- Following Paige Patterson's termination by a 12-member committee of the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary trustees, reactions have ranged from affirmation of the trustees to defense of Patterson.

The seminary has canceled planned on-campus events in conjunction with the June 12-13 Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting in Dallas, and at least two of Patterson's speaking engagements at ancillary meetings have been canceled. Patterson has not said whether he will deliver the convention sermon in Dallas, a task messengers at the 2017 SBC annual meeting elected him to fulfill. Read More

SOUTHBURY, Ct. (BP) -- Myron Havrilchak was among thousands whose houses and property in southeast Connecticut were substantially damaged by tornadoes that recently swept through the area.

And yet, when a Tennessee Baptist disaster relief team arrived at Havrilchak's residence in Southbury, they quickly realized something was on his mind that meant more to him than brick and mortar.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Havrilchak proudly flies a flag in his backyard. But the storms had destroyed his flagpole and the 86-year-old was focused, with the heart of a soldier, on rectifying the problem. Read More

DALLAS (BP) -- Be intentional. That's the message John Ambra, director of development for Mission:Dignity, wants Southern Baptists to hear.

The ministry is searching for retired Southern Baptist ministers, workers and their widows who need financial assistance -- people who may find it hard to ask for help or may not know it's there.

Kenneth and Marilene Moon, who were featured in a Mission:Dignity promotional video in 2016, were in a similar situation when they applied for help in 2008 to the ministry of GuideStone Financial Resources. Read More
