NEW YORK CITY (BP) -- Reagan Grisham said she's visited nine countries in her lifetime and left a piece of her heart in each one.

But when she landed in New York City for Passport New York, she said God did something unexpected -- He gathered all of those pieces up.

"I thought it would be just another short-term trip," said Grisham, a senior at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. "But it turned out to be life-changing. There are people here from all of those countries that I visited. And God affirmed a call for me to stay and plant my life here." Read More

BLUEFIELD, Va. (BP) -- As Eric Mason and Amber Fowler put the final touches on their March 10 wedding, the couple turned their attention to what kind of favors they wanted to give guests who attended the reception. Maybe they'd hand out candies, candles or bubbles. But they didn't figure any of the traditional wedding-reception favors would last long. They'd be eaten, used or stuck on a shelf and likely forgotten.

The couple instead hoped to use the funds to do something that lasted a bit longer, an effort that would have eternal consequences. They began to look at a variety of charitable gifts that would make better use of the money they'd normally spend on the favors. Read More

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (BP) -- The Virginia Cavaliers began the regular season unheralded and unranked. They ended it as the No. 1 team in the country and a favorite going into this year's NCAA men's basketball tournament -- with many giving credit to their faith-fueled coach.

Tony Bennett has been around basketball for much of his life, due in part to his father and retired coach Dick Bennett.

But a love of basketball is not all the elder Bennett passed down. Tony Bennett watched his father develop a way to coach basketball that honored Christ. And he has built the Virginia program around the biblical principles of "humility, passion, unity, servanthood and thankfulness" -- what he calls the "Five Pillars." Read More

  • Object lesson reaps rewards for hurricane relief

by Sheila Allen/Northwest Baptist Witness, posted Friday, March 16, 2018 (5 months ago)

GRESHAM, Ore. (BP) -- A hands-on Bible lesson took on a life of its own for 10-year-old Dallas Claytor after attending Sunday services with his parents and sister.

Young Dallas heard pastor Keith Evans of Pathway Church in Gresham, Ore., preach about the parable of the talents. Evans used unmarked envelopes of money to hand out to unsuspecting volunteers during the sermon in denominations of $10, $20 and $50 each. He then asked each recipient to use the money to bless or encourage someone in coming days.

"I got the envelope with $50 in it," Claytor said. "The pastor wanted us to multiply the money and make God proud. I was shocked." Read More

[We're] just anxious to move on with what the Lord has for us to be doing," Emmite said. "We're trying to just stay focused on doing ministry right now."

Donald R. White, 68, of Hannibal was arrested March 9 on two federal counts of wire fraud "in connection with the theft of monies in excess of $300,000 dollars from the parishioners of the Antioch Baptist Church," the Ralls County Sheriff Gerry Dinwiddie announced in a press release.

Read More
