  • Senior adult conversions on the rise?

by David Roach, posted Tuesday, January 23, 2018 (one year ago)

NASHVILLE (BP) -- When evangelist Phil Waldrep agreed to preach a revival at a nursing home, he didn't expect a huge response. After all, he reasoned, aren't most older people already Christians?

But of the 40-60 nursing home residents who attended the services, 21 made a profession of faith in Christ as their Lord and Savior, and about 10 were later baptized at a local church.

That experience two decades ago helped spur Waldrep to add senior adult events to his schedule. Today, he and fellow Southern Baptist evangelists say they are seeing a steady -- and in some cases increasing -- stream of people over 55 coming to know Christ. Read More

  • Rethinking missions and retirement

by Paul Akin , posted Tuesday, January 23, 2018 (one year ago)

RICHMOND, Va. (BP) -- Baby Boomers -- those born between 1946 and 1964 -- are currently heading into retirement at an unprecedented rate. Data suggests that on average, 10,000 Baby Boomers retire every day.

Recent research also suggests that the average Baby Boomer is expected to live at least until age 84. Couple those two realities together and what you have is a generation of people who are retiring and, on average, will live for nearly another 20 years. The implications of these truths are massive for Christians and churches and missions. Read More

WASHINGTON (BP) -- Experiencing the atmosphere of the West Wing is an unforgettable experience for anyone. But it's an everyday experience for White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

As the daughter of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Sanders took an interest in government and politics from an early age. Her extreme interest in politics "doesn't make me sound like a very fun 7-year-old," she joked in an afternoon interview. Read More

  • 100 years of LifeWay Architecture

by Joy Allmond, posted Tuesday, January 23, 2018 (one year ago)

NASHVILLE (BP) -- LifeWay Architecture begins 2018 working toward the next 100 years of serving the Church, having marked its centennial anniversary in 2017.

"This is an important milestone in the history of LifeWay," said Eric Geiger, LifeWay's senior vice president and chief business officer. "Those who cast the vision for LifeWay Architecture were out-of-the-box thinkers who helped create environments conducive to group discipleship, and came alongside the local church to do the work with them instead of for them. And that's who we aim to be, even 100 years later." Read More
