Southern Baptists pause to pray for Obama Wednesday, June 24, 2009 - 9:48:00 AM
SBC messengers passed a resolution this morning that pledges to pray for President Obama, and they put it into practice moments later when Resolutions Committee Chairman Danny Akin called on the body to pause and pray for their commander-in-chief.
SBC President Johnny Hunt led the messengers in the prayer.
"I ask in Jesus' name," Hunt prayed, "that You will place people around him that will be great men and women of wisdom. … We pray for him, that You will speak to him. … I pray that You will so work in his heart that you will draw him to Yourself."
Before he prayed, Hunt used a biblical theme and reminded messengers that the "king's heart is in the hand of the King."
