Florida Baptist messengers top state-by-state totals

ORLANDO, Fla. (BP)--Florida Baptists sent the largest number of messengers, 2,006, of the 11,918 Baptists who registered for the Southern Baptist Convention's June 13-14 annual meeting at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.

Other leading states were Georgia with 1,305; North Carolina, 1,170; and Tennessee, 1,037, according to unofficial figures compiled by SBC registration secretary Lee Porter from the 143rd session of the 155-year-old convention.

Last year's final registration in Atlanta was 11,554.

Unofficial state-by-state registration numbers are: Alabama, 799; Alaska, 10; Arizona, 40; Arkansas, 275; California, 109; Colorado 59; Connecticut, 2; Delaware, 2; District of Columbia, 10; Florida, 2,006; Georgia, 1,305; Hawaii, 8; Idaho, 5; Illinois, 224; Indiana, 101: Iowa, 19; Kansas, 66; Kentucky, 588; Louisiana, 280; Maine, 2; Maryland, 97; Massachusetts, 10; Michigan, 32; Minnesota, 9; Mississippi, 500; Missouri, 378; Montana, 2; Nebraska, 6; Nevada, 38; New Hampshire, 10; New Jersey, 17; New Mexico, 42; New York, 46; North Carolina, 1,170; Ohio, 204; Oklahoma, 222; Oregon, 11, Pennsylvania, 47; South Carolina, 836; Tennessee, 1,037; Texas, 693; Utah, 4; Virginia, 548; Washington, 18; West Virginia, 51l; Wisconsin, 7 and Wyoming, 8. The territory of Puerto Rico had 1 messenger attending.

Four states, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota and Vermont, had no registered messengers.
