Bible Study: June 9, 2019

NASHVILLE (BP) — This weekly Bible study appears in Baptist Press in a partnership with LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention. Through its Leadership and Adult Publishing team, LifeWay publishes Sunday School curricula and additional resources for all age groups.

This week’s Bible study is adapted from the YOU curriculum.

Bible Passages: Luke 11:2-4, 9-13

Discussion Questions:
— Why is prayer important?
— Do you believe you can trust God to provide for your needs? Why or why not?
— What would your relationship with God be like if He forgave you the way you forgive others?

Food for Thought:

Read Luke 11:2-4, 9-13. Relationships are important. But a relationship without communication is no relationship.

A husband who tells his wife he loves her but then doesn’t talk to her the rest of the week is not in a great marriage relationship. The same is true in a believer’s relationship with God. The only time some believers interact with God is in church on Sunday. They sing songs about how much they love God and never talk to Him until they’re back at church next week. Prayer is a communication with God.

Jesus knew how important prayer is, and He wanted His disciples to understand. Prayer is not something you just know how to do. Prayer is not bringing an extended wish list to God in hopes He will give you anything you want. But God does give us “our daily bread,” which means that we are totally dependent upon Him to meet all of our needs.

God’s provision is not just one time. Instead, there is daily provision for our needs. God takes care of His creation in ways we just can’t begin to comprehend (Job 38-39). Jesus told His disciples not to worry about the things they needed because God already knows and fulfills our needs.
