Toby Frost to be Pastors’ Conf. treasurer nominee

ST. LOUIS (BP) — Toby Frost, pastor of South Main Baptist Church in Greenwood, S.C., will be nominated for treasurer of the Southern Baptist Convention Pastors’ Conference, according to an announcement by former SBC President Johnny Hunt.

Hunt, pastor of First Baptist Church in Woodstock, Ga., stated in a June 2 email to Baptist Press, “I have been privileged to know Toby Frost for 35 years. I know him to be a man of integrity, compassion and personal soul winning. He’s the type leader the SBC will enjoy in leadership to our Pastors’ Conference.”

A former senior director of strategic evangelism at the North American Mission Board, Frost has written more than 50 manuals, books, tracts and journal articles, with more than 10 million copies published. His bestselling booklet “More Than Gold” “provided key ministry content for the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympic Games and the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympic games,” according to a May 31 news release announcing the nomination.

Frost has served as a pastor, associate pastor, church planter and church revitalizer at congregations in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Louisiana. He was director of event evangelism at NAMB and associate director of mass evangelism at the Home Mission Board, NAMB’s precursor entity.

The Pastors’ Conference, which features messages from key leaders and inspirational music and worship, will be June 12-13 at America’s Center in St. Louis preceding the SBC’s June 14-15 annual meeting there.

Phoenix will be the site of next year’s Pastors’ Conference and SBC annual meeting.

During the year Frost has pastored South Main, the church has broken its all-time high attendance record in worship and baptized dozens, according to the news release.

The SBC’s Annual Church Profile database indicates South Main’s Great Commission Giving exceeded 15 percent of its undesignated receipts in 2015, with 8 percent channeled through the Cooperative Program, Southern Baptists’ unified program for funding missions and ministries in North America and around the world. Frost confirmed those numbers to BP.

Great Commission Giving is a category of giving established by SBC action in 2011 that encompasses giving through CP as well as direct gifts to SBC entities, associational giving and giving to state convention ministries.

Frost earned a doctor of ministry degree from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Mo., a master of divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C., and an undergraduate degree from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C.

He and his wife Susan have three adult children.
