Comedian & speaker Anita Renfroe slated for SBC women’s events

ST. LOUIS (BP) — Anita Renfroe, a popular Christian comedian and communicator, will be the keynote speaker for two of three events for ministers’ wives attending the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention in St. Louis.

The trio of women’s events, based on the theme, “Be Encouraged,” will include a Pastors’ Wives Conference, a Ministers’ Wives Luncheon and a Women’s Expo.

The Pastors’ Wives Conference, held during the morning session of the Pastors’ Conference on Monday, June 13, from 9 to 11:30 a.m., will feature teaching sessions as well as table discussions.

In addition to Renfroe, who will speak on the topic, “Putty in the Hands of a Loving God,” other speakers will include Selma Wilson, addressing “Owning your Development;” Trillia Newbell of Nashville, Tenn., to be interviewed by Kathy Litton about “Leaning into our Changing Culture;” Reese Ripken, to be interviewed by Donna Gaines about “Missional Matters in the Persecuted Church;” and Anne Graham Lotz, who will lead in a prayer time based on her book, “The Daniel Prayer.”

Renfroe, who is known for her “unique brand of estrogen flavored musical comedy,” has been featured on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” “Dr. Phil,” CBS’s “The Early Show,” Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends,” and many other media outlets. She became an overnight Internet sensation when millions viewed her YouTube video of her singing everything a mother says to her children in a single day to the tune of “The William Tell Overture” in just two minutes and fifty-five seconds.

Renfroe is the author of the Hyperion release, “DON’T SAY I DIDN’T WARN YOU: Kids, Carbs, and the Coming Hormonal Apocalypse.”

Wilson is executive leader of organizational development at LifeWay Christian Resources, Newbell serves as director of community outreach at the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, Ripken is wife of “Insanity of God” author Nik Ripken, and Lotz is daughter of evangelist Billy Graham and founder of AnGeL Ministries, a non-profit organization based in Raleigh, N.C.

Litton, the national consultant for ministry to pastors’ wives for the North American Mission Board, is married to Ed Litton, senior pastor of Redemption Church in North Mobile, Ala. Gaines is married to Steve Gaines, senior pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis.

The emcee for the Pastors’ Wives Conference will be Meredith Floyd, wife of Nick Floyd of Cross Church in Fayetteville, Ark. Barbara O’Chester, who has served as a spiritual mentor to thousands of Southern Baptist women, will lead in a time of prayer, and Kristin and Eric Yeldell of First Baptist Church in Naples, Fla., will again lead music.

The conference will be hosted in the Marriott St. Louis Grand-Majestic Ballroom. There is no cost for the event and registration is not required. Women who serve in any facet of local church leadership, missions and denominational work are invited to attend.

Pastors’ Wives Conference organizer Susie Hawkins emphasizing her hope that Southern Baptist wives can get to know each other better.

“Southern Baptist men always know each other, but women not so much,” she said. “We want to pray and worship together, and to really encourage women in their roles as ministers’ wives.”

Vickie Munton, president of this year’s Ministers’ Wives Luncheon, also noted, “A lot of churches are smaller churches, and ministers’ wives may not receive the encouragement they deserve.”

“We hope this luncheon will help them feel encouraged and that they are not alone,” said Munton, wife of Doug Munton, senior pastor of First Baptist Church in O’Fallon, Ill.

Renfroe will lead during this annual luncheon, which will take place on Tuesday, June 14, from noon to 1:30 p.m., also in the Marriott St. Louis Grand-Majestic Ballroom.

In addition, one ministers’ wife will be awarded the Willie Turner Dawson Award. To receive this award, the recipient must serve as the wife of a minister and have made a distinct denominational contribution beyond her service in the local church.
