BP among top award winners


NASHVILLE (BP) — Baptist Press and its staff members were among those recognized this year by professional organizations for their achievements in writing and digital publication.

The Evangelical Press Association, for the second year in a row, has named BP its Award of Excellence recipient in the denominational (digital) category, the association’s top honor for online denominational news services.

EPA, a professional association of Christian publications and websites, has posted a complete list of award winners at www.evangelicalpress.com/2016-awards-of-excellence/.

BP won four awards in the Baptist Communicators Association Wilmer C. Fields Awards Competition:

— Diana Chandler, BP’s general assignment writer/editor, won second and third place in the feature writing division (more than 1,500 words) for, respectively, her reports on ministry to sex trafficking victims and Michigan pastors’ dispelling reports of Sharia law in Dearborn, Mich.

— Shawn Hendricks, BP managing editor and director of operations, won second place in the feature writing division (series or package) for his package of reports on the 2015 Super Bowl in Phoenix.

— David Roach, BP’s chief national correspondent, won second place in the news writing division for his report on balancing compassion and security in policies regarding Syrian refugees.
