Gift to GGBTS: church planting scholarships

MILL VALLEY, Calif. (BP) — A family foundation has donated $850,000 for church planting scholarships through Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary.

“They believe in the Great Commission,” President Jeff Iorg said, “and they want to see Gospel-preaching churches planted throughout the world. So they made a very generous gift to ensure that church planters are trained at Golden Gate Seminary.”

The new scholarship fund represents the third-largest single gift in the seminary’s history.

“The donors, who wish to remain anonymous, told me they want to see church planters trained at Golden Gate Seminary without worrying about the cost of tuition,” Iorg said. “We are grateful for their Kingdom-minded generosity.

“Beginning in the 2015 spring term, we will be awarding church planting scholarships to students who are currently working in a church plant, sense a call to planting a church, or want to serve on a church planting team,” Iorg said.

Iorg also noted that this gift, received earlier this fall, seems to indicate God’s blessing the seminary’s decision to sell its San Francisco-area Mill Valley campus and create a new primary campus in Southern California’s Inland Empire region and a commuter campus in the Bay Area.

“God is blessing us and confirming we are following His guidance,” Iorg said.
