Wells aims for 11th term as registration sec.

HOUSTON (BP) — Jim Wells, strategic partners team leader for Missouri Baptist Convention, will be nominated for an 11th term as registration secretary of the Southern Baptist Convention at the June 11-12 annual meeting in Houston.

Jim Richards, executive director of Southern Baptist of Texas Convention, described Wells as a “man of deep commitment,” in announcing his intention to nominate Wells for another term.

“There is no one I know who has greater integrity with a sweeter spirit than Jim,” Richards said.

“As many of you know, he has faced health challenges in the last few years. He has persevered through to serve our Lord Jesus and Southern Baptists.” Wells was diagnosed in 2010 with a sarcoma malignancy in his left hip muscle but was expected to have an excellent prognosis after the treatment he received that year.

Prior to his current work with the Missouri convention, Wells served nearly 12 years as director of missions for the Tri County Baptist Association in southwest Missouri. He has served as a member of the SBC Executive Committee, president of the Missouri Baptist Convention Directors of Missions and as a leader in various Baptist associations.

Wells has been in ministry since his days as a student at Hannibal-LaGrange College in the late 1960s when he concurrently pastored two country churches. He was Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary’s 2004 national alumnus of the year and Hannibal-LaGrange awarded him an honorary doctor of sacred theology in 1999.

He and his wife Judy are members of Second Baptist Church in Springfield and have a grown daughter and a granddaughter.
