Md./Del. Baptists accepting exec applicants

COLUMBIA, Md. (BP) — Applications for the position of executive director of the Baptist Convention of Maryland/Delaware are being accepted through April 30 via a portal on the BCM/D website, bcmd.org/executive-search.

Charlie Brown, chairperson of the BCM/D Executive Director Search Committee, said the right candidate will be a Southern Baptist man who will lead with vision and sensitivity as chief executive officer through planning, organizing, staffing, directing and utilizing all resources to fulfill the convention’s mission.

“Our state convention exists to assist in starting and strengthening congregations in response to Jesus’ command in Matthew 28:19-20 and Acts 1:8,” said Brown, associate pastor of Dunkirk (Md.) Baptist Church. “Our two-state convention carries this mission out in one of the most strategic locations in the world directly connected to our nation’s capital and the great city of Baltimore, Md.”

The multi-state convention, with offices in Columbia, Md., a suburb of Washington, D.C., serves 550-plus churches in the Mid-Atlantic region in a cooperating relationship with the Southern Baptist Convention.

The new executive director will succeed David Lee, who will retire July 31 after 19 years of service to the convention, the last 13 as executive director.

BCM/D President Robert Anderson, senior pastor of Colonial Baptist Church in Randallstown, Md., said Lee “has served Maryland/Delaware Baptists with honor and distinction, and will leave a notable legacy of integrity, wise leadership and Christ-like character of humility and grace.”

The search committee includes members of the BCM/D General Mission Board’s Administrative Committee, a mixture of clergy and laity from the convention’s churches. The Administrative Committee oversees personnel, finances and general operations of the BCM/D with input from General Mission Board members.

Individuals interested in applying for BCM/D executive director should post a resume and fill out a questionnaire at the bcmd.org/executive-search portal.

Alternately, resumes may be emailed to the BCM/D Executive Search Committee at [email protected].

Individuals wishing to recommend a person for the position must send a formal letter of recommendation with the candidate’s resume also to [email protected].

Resumes must be received by close of business on April 30.

The search committee will screen applications based on written materials that have been submitted. Candidates selected for preliminary interviews may be interviewed in person or by conference call. Finalists will be invited to a personal interview, with members of the convention participating.
