NEW ORLEANS (BP) — Registration is open for preschool childcare as well as Children in Action and Youth on Mission programs in conjunction with the Southern Baptist Convention’s June 19-20 annual meeting in New Orleans.
Southern Baptist Disaster Relief childcare units will care for preschoolers, while Woman’s Missionary Union will guide the Children in Action and Youth on Mission curricula and activities.
Preschool childcare and activities for grades 1-6 will be housed at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, the annual meeting site. Students in grades 7-12 will meet at the convention center before going into the community with Baptist Friendship House for hands-on mission work. Students will return to the convention center prior to the close of the afternoon session each day.
Registration is handled online at www.sbcannualmeeting.net under the “Children and Students” tab. Space is limited.
PRESCHOOL CHILDCARE
Disaster relief childcare volunteers from the Mississippi and Alabama conventions will offer childcare for newborns through age 5 during the SBC Pastors’ Conference, June 17–18, and the annual meeting, June 19-20. (For older children, see students/youth below.) Childcare is $20 per child for each of the events, not to exceed $40 per family per event. In addition, there is a $10 non-refundable registration fee per child.
Lunch for preschoolers will be available for $5 Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Parents should pay all related fees when registering to insure their child’s participation. The SBC will verify registrations with an emailed confirmation packet, including a parent’s handbook.
GRADES 1-12
Children in Action and Youth on Mission will be offered June 19-20.
“To the Finish Line” is the theme for Children in Action, designed to challenge children entering grades 1-6 to live Christ-centered lives, said Cindy Bradley, Michigan WMU executive director and children’s camp coordinator.
“Bible studies will encourage attendees to choose to follow Christ, train spiritually, move past obstacles to faith and win a heavenly prize,” Bradley said. “In addition to Bible studies, children will visit with missionaries representing both the International Mission Board and North American Mission Board and will participate in worship sessions, games and recreation, and crafts and mission projects.”
Children in Action is $35 per child. In addition, there is a $10 non-refundable registration fee per child.
Youth on Mission will teach students entering grades 7–12 to link Bible study with missional living, said Gaylor Parker, event coordinator and Maryland/Delaware WMU executive director. WMU leaders, students and adults who have been third-culture kids will lead participants in mission work in New Orleans neighborhoods and bring them back to the convention center at each day’s end for prayer and debriefing.
“Students will enjoy a worship experience in the morning along with small group Bible studies and interaction with a missionary,” Parker said. “They will have the opportunity to live out what they studied as they serve in hands-on ministry projects at the Baptist Friendship House in New Orleans and the surrounding community.”
Youth on Mission is $50 per child. In addition, there is a $10 non-refundable registration fee per child.
