Baptist Press interns capture SBC flavor


LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP)–Last month, Baptist Press recruited students from Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, N.C., to provide video coverage for the Southern Baptist Convention’s annual meeting in Louisville, Ky. The students created multi-media presentations highlighting a few of the events surrounding the meeting and capturing some of the flavor and experiences of SBC 2009.

KENNY

CROSSOVER BLOCK PARTY

Arcade Baptist Church in Louisville, Ky., hosted a block party as part of Crossover. Pastor Gary Kasey talks about the reasons for hosting the event and his vision for the community. Volunteers from North Carolina share ways they were able to minister at the event. Video by Cat McDonald.

CROSSOVER FOOD DISTRIBUTION

SBC President Johnny Hunt speaks to the volunteers who helped distribute more than 1,200 boxes of food as part of Crossover ’09. The boxes of food were provided by Feed the Children as part of a joint effort by the Long Run Baptist Association, Crossover Louisville, the Kentucky Baptist Convention, the North American Mission Board and the Southern Baptist Convention. CROSSOVER INDIAN CONCERT

Mike O’Neal, pastor of Hurstbourne Baptist Church in Louisville, talks about his church members’ desire to reach south Asians in their community. As part of that effort, the church hosted a free concert during Crossover. Prasad Kumar, a student at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, presented traditional Indian music at the church June 20. BUILDING 429 CONCERT

Attendees at the ONE Student Rally enjoyed a concert by Christian band Building 429 and heard a message from evangelist Ken Freeman. The June 21 outreach, part of the lead-up to the Southern Baptist Convention in Louisville, was sponsored by the Conference of Southern Baptist Evangelists, the Lon Run Baptist Association, the Kentucky Baptist Convention and the North American Mission Board.
