Wellness Walk rained out

INDIANAPOLIS (BP)–Thunder claps resounding in downtown Indianapolis and thunderstorm predictions buffeted plans for GuideStone Financial Resources’ Wellness Walk, held annually in conjunction with the Southern Baptist Convention.

With nearly 600 messengers and family members signed up for the walk, GuideStone decided Monday evening that wellness would best be practiced by promoting safety and canceling the June 10 Tuesday morning event so participants would not be exposed to lightning or wet trails at White River State Park in Indianapolis.

“We always hate to cancel programs, especially when they are so popular and so beneficial to our participants,” said Curt Sharp, GuideStone’s executive officer of denominational and public relations services. “But our first concern is safety. Thunderstorms were forecasted throughout the early morning, and we weren’t willing to take that risk.”

GuideStone sponsored its first Wellness Walk in 2003.
