Dayton leaves Crown Financial CEO role

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (BP)–Crown Financial Ministries announced Sept. 5 that Chuck Bentley has taken over as CEO for Howard Dayton, who will continue to host the ministry’s “Money Matters” radio program and also to write on financial concerns for Christians.

The transition took place Sept. 1 and has been in the works for years, Dayton said. Crown is a Christian ministry that teaches believers biblical principles about money. In recent months Crown has teamed up with the SBC Executive Committee to sponsor the “It’s a New Day” initiative, which seeks to help church members get out of debt and better manage their money with a Kingdom focus. Dayton’s column appears each month in Baptist Press.

“Before Crown’s first CEO Larry Burkett passed away, Larry and I often talked about Chuck as his choice to succeed me in the CEO role,” Dayton said in a news release. “Chuck Bentley is extraordinarily competent and creative, but even more impressive is his deep commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and his love of the Bible. It is with great excitement and thankfulness that I transfer the leadership of Crown to Chuck Bentley.”

Bentley formerly served as senior vice president of Crown’s global impact group and, prior to that, as vice president of Crown’s U.S. field operations. He also is the co-creator of the Money Map, which is used to teach people how to budget their money.

Crown Financial Ministries was formed in 2000 with the merger of Christian Financial Concepts, founded in 1976 by Burkett, and Crown Ministries, founded in 1985 by Dayton. Burkett died in 2003.

Ron Blue, chairman of Crown’s board, acknowledged a “great sense of gratitude to Howard Dayton for his leadership, integrity, character, and his passion for teaching biblical financial principles.”

“Howard led and presided over one of the most significant ministry mergers ever with grace and skill, and his mark will always be on Crown,” Blue said.

Said Bentley, “I am walking in the shoes of giants, and I am humbled and honored that this important role has been entrusted to me. The ministry family is united in prayer as a new chapter begins for Crown, building on a strong foundation.”
