Evangelist Bill Britt is v.p. nominee
Britt is the immediate past president of the Conference of Southern Baptist Evangelists and president of Compel Outreach International, through which he averages more than 40 revivals annually in Southern Baptist churches and oversees indigenous missions in Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mexico, India and the Philippines, in addition to leading other international revivals and crusades. He is a veteran of 800-plus campaigns, including more than 70 conducted overseas.
"SBC officers and leaders must be undisputed, passionate soul-winners for Christ," Fossett said in a news release. "Bill Britt exemplifies this qualification. In a ministry spanning 30 years, he has served as pastor, youth pastor, associational evangelism director and for 22 years a dedicated, fruit-bearing evangelist, leading thousands of lost souls to the saving grace of Jesus Christ. Bill's entire evangelistic ministry has been faith-based and above reproach. He has unwaveringly served alongside pastors, national and international, to discern the will of God and deliver His Word, training and discipling pastors and laymen, alike.
"In 2006 alone, God used Bill to lead more than 16,000 souls to Christ," Fossett continued. "His ministry is proof that the gifts of the evangelist, as outlined in Ephesians 4, are as critical and impacting today as ever before. Bill would bring frontline understanding and experience of harvest challenges worldwide to the leadership of the SBC."
Britt, in the news release distributed by Fossett, described himself as "a man in love with Jesus, humbled that He would use me to build His Kingdom here on earth. The days are short, and we must labor intently to share the Gospel until the whole world hears. To that end, I would be honored to serve the Kingdom as a voice for the Southern Baptist Convention's future course."
In addition to his fulltime evangelism ministry, Britt serves as staff evangelist for his home church, College Heights Baptist in Gallatin. Senior pastor Jeff La Borg described Britt as one of today's great harvesters, a man with a global passion for Jesus. "At CHBC, we are honored to have Bill and (his wife) Wendy as part of our church family. Though he travels extensively sharing the Word, he is a vital and active part of our ministry. Bro. Bill generously contributes his wisdom, counsel and experience to the local church. I count it a privilege to be his pastor," La Borg said.
Information for College Heights Baptist Church from Southern Baptists' Annual Church Profile survey for the most recent year, 2006, lists 187 baptisms and primary worship service attendance of 870. The church gave $48,631, or 3.4 percent, through the Cooperative Program from total undesignated receipts of $1,429,671. According to the ACP, the church's total mission expenditures were $95,318, including $1,125 for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions.
Britt is a native of Haughton, La. He and his wife have been married 27 years and have two married sons, Jeremy and Luke and two grandsons.
