TAYLORS, S.C. (BP)–God continues to bless my life with opportunities of seeing His hand at work around this world.
Some time ago, my church decided to go on a mission trip east of Puebla, Mexico. Many years ago our church assisted some Mexican nationals, as well as missionaries Don and Edith Kennedy, in the planting of a church in a small town called El Carmen. That small church has continued to grow over these years. Subsequent mission trips have encouraged, trained and discipled precious believers.
This year, we continued to minister to that body of believers as they sought to perform servant evangelism projects in neighboring areas in order to start Bible studies, and later, churches in those areas. It truly was a glorious time. We heard the testimonies of new believers as they shared life-transforming stories about what Christ had done in their families and lives.
Please remember that the wonderful mission work going on around this world is possible through the Cooperative Program and through special mission offerings, such as the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. While this offering and the Cooperative Program have been around a long time, let us continue to see that they are objects of great worth. No other evangelical body has a mechanism that comes anywhere close to this funding miracle.
I urge you to pray for our missionaries in Mexico. There are areas of lostness in Mexico that would correspond to any 10/40 window country in the world. The country is beset by decades of a works-oriented theology, and people are crying out for a life-transforming relationship with Jesus Christ. Thank God for the faithful ministry of missionaries like Don and Edith Kennedy, as well as for the faithful Mexican nationals, who are seriously committed to following Acts 1:8 as a strategy for their lives.
Many people who travel to Mexico are given the advice, “Don’t drink the water.” While that may be true in a physical sense, I praise God that people in Mexico are drinking The Water. Spiritually speaking, they have heard the advice of Jesus, who said to the woman at the well in Samaria (John 4:14), “Whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” I thank God that many are drinking of the water of eternal life. Pray that God would bring his precious salvation to countless thousands in Mexico and around our world over these coming days.
