Chris Tomlin tallies most Dove Award nominations

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)--Chris Tomlin led all artists with nine nominations for Dove Awards when nominees for Christian music’s top honors were announced Feb. 1 in Nashville, Tenn.

Others with multiple nominations for the Gospel Music Association’s annual awards are the David Crowder Band, Relient K, Natalie Grant and Joy Williams, each with six; and BarlowGirl, Third Day, Switchfoot, Jeremy Camp, Casting Crowns, the Crabb Family and Israel Houghton, each with five.

Winners from 42 categories will be announced during the GMA Music Awards April 5 at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tenn. The show will be aired in national syndication between April 15 and May 21.

Nominated in key categories are:

Artist of the year: Chris Tomlin, Natalie Grant, Jeremy Camp, Switchfoot, Casting Crowns.

Male vocalist of the year: Chris Tomlin, Jeremy Camp, David Phelps, Jason Crabb, Mark Hall.

Female vocalist of the year: Joy Williams, Natalie Grant, Amy Grant, Nichole Nordeman, Bethany Dillon.

Group of the year: David Crowder Band, BarlowGirl, MercyMe, Kutless, Casting Crowns.

New artist of the year: Sellar Kart, The Afters, Krystal Meyers, Shawn McDonald, Ernie Haase & Signature Sound.

Song of the year: "Cry Out to Jesus" (Mac Powell, Tai Anderson, Brad Avery, Cavid Carr, Mark Lee); "Friend of God" (Israel Houghton, Michael Gungor); "Held" (Christa Wells); "Hide" (Joy Williams, Jason Houser, Matthew West); "Holy is the Lord" (Chris Tomlin, Louie Giglio); "How Great is Our God" (Chris Tomlin, Jesse Reeves, Ed Cash); "Indescribable" (Laura Story, Jesse Reeves); "Lifesong" (Mark Hall); "Only Grace" (Matthew West, Kenny Greenberg); "Voice of Truth" (Mark Hall, Steven Curtis Chapman).

The songwriter of the year nominees and winner will not be announced until the GMA Music Awards.
