FIRST-PERSON: God’s healing power

DORA, Ala. (BP)–Where does God not exist? Nowhere! The Creator of the universe is omnipresent –- that is, everywhere at the same time. God is astounding.

In John 11 we read the story of Jesus’ friend Lazarus. Obviously, Martha didn’t understand the concept of omnipresence. When Jesus arrived four days after Lazarus’ death, Martha went out to meet Him, saying, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.”

True enough, Jesus did raise Lazarus from the grave. But there is no place in Scripture that tells us that Lazarus lived on forever. There is every reason to believe that Lazarus eventually died once again and was not resurrected to continue life on earth but allowed to go on to glory just as other believers do in death. Death is as natural a part of life as is birth.

I really get irked at preachers who stand and scream, “If you have enough faith, you can be healed of anything!” If this is so, then why are so many of these same believers looking through a pair of glasses or adjusting their hearing aid as they preach to you?

I firmly believe that God can and will heal whenever He chooses and I also believe that our prayers and faith can move God to act. But healing isn’t always something we receive here on earth; there is also the ultimate healing we receive when we are translated from this life into the eternal one Jesus has prepared.

Look in Second Kings 13:14. Here we read: “Elisha had become sick with the illness of which he would die.” Remember him? Elisha had asked for and received a double portion of the spirit of Elijah. Talk about power! Talk about faith! Talk about a man who was busy doing the Lord’s work on this earth!

And yet he experienced illness and death. No one wants to see a loved one suffer or die, but we need to realize that believers go on to the glories of heaven where there is no remembrance of pain or suffering.

“God raised [Jesus] up, ending the pains of death, because it was not possible for Him to be held by it” (Acts 2:24).
