WMU names new consultant; New Hope taps marketing director

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BP)–Dianne Daniels has been named the new multicultural ministry consultant for the national Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU), while Wendy Wakefield has been named sales and marketing manager for New Hope Publishers, a publishing arm of WMU.

Daniels, who joined the WMU staff July 1, worked as a Spanish teacher for the past 16 years in high schools in Burlington and Greensboro, N.C. Prior to teaching, she and her husband, Bain, served as missionaries through the International Mission Board from 1981-1987 in Bogotá, Colombia. Daniels also has experience working on church staffs; she served as director of education at Glen Hope Baptist Church in Burlington, N.C., and as minister of education at Rolling Roads Baptist Church in Greensboro, N.C.

She holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, and a master of divinity degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

“Dianne brings a rich background of experience to WMU and to missions,” said Carol Causey, director of the WMU missions resource center. “Her service as a missionary and as a missions leader in North Carolina make her a perfect fit for her new position. We are delighted to have her join our staff and look forward to her contribution to our work.”

On the side, Daniels and her husband perform in community theatre. They have two children. Their son, Patrick, serves in the U.S. Marine Corps, and their daughter, Katie, begins college this fall at Guilford Technical Community College in Greensboro, N.C.

Wakefield, who joined the New Hope staff Aug. 1, previously worked as an advertising sales representative and marketing manager for Ingram Book Company in LaVergne, Tenn., and as operations manager of Independent Christian Catalogs (ICC) in Nashville, which is parented by The Parable Group based in San Luis Obispo, Calif. In 2003, Wakefield launched her own company, marketing keynote speakers and trainers for corporate America.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in advertising from the University of Western Kentucky.

“We are so excited that the Lord has brought Wendy to our staff,” said Andrea Mullins, director of New Hope Publishers. “Her strong industry background and marketing expertise will enhance our efforts as New Hope continues to see dynamic growth in the Christian publishing marketplace.”

Wakefield was raised on the mission field in Mexico, where her parents continue to serve. She is fluent in Spanish and says she has a passion for promoting and supporting missions around the world and in the United States.
