NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–Following is the outline of a sermon delivered by Charles Haddon Spurgeon at the Metropolitan Tabernacle in Newington, England, on June 1, 1890.
Scripture: “By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.” (Hebrews 11:7)
I. In Noah’s case, faith was the first principle
A. Noah believed in God in his ordinary life
B. Noah had faith in the warning and threatening of God
C. Noah believed what seemed highly improbable, if not absolutely impossible
D. Noah believed alone, and preached on though none followed him
E. Noah believed through a hundred and twenty solitary years!
F. Noah believed even to separation from the world
II. Fear was the moving force
A. Noah had no evil fear
B. Noah had a loyal reverence of God
C. Noah had a very humble distrust of himself
III. Obedience was the gracious fruit
A. Noah obeyed the Lord exactly
B. Noah obeyed the Lord very carefully
C. Noah obeyed at all costs
D. Noah went on obeying under daily scorn
E. Noah’s obedience followed the command as he learned it
IV. Results did not fail to come
A. He was saved and his house
B. He condemned the world
C. He became heir of the righteousness which is by faith
