Registration opens for childcare, children & youth at SBC meeting

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–Registration is now open for families who wish to enroll their children in the preschool childcare, the children’s conference or the youth Centrifuge from June 13-16 in conjunction with the Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting in Indianapolis.

For all information regarding registration, visit www.sbc.net and click on “2004 SBC Annual Meeting Pre-Registration.”

Childcare for infants through children who have completed kindergarten will be available from Sunday afternoon through Wednesday. A $10 one-time nonrefundable registration fee is charged for each child. For each session, a $5 per child fee is charged, with a maximum charge of $40 per family for the full four days of childcare. Lunch also will be available for the children on Monday and Tuesday for a cost of $5 per lunch. Complete payment is due for all sessions and for lunch, if requested, upon arrival for the first session.

Registration information may be obtained in one of three ways:

— e-mailing [email protected], including the sender’s name and address.

— downloading a set of forms for each child at www.sbc.net.

— writing to SBC Childcare, Sandy Osborne, Ballwin Baptist Church, 15101 Manchester Road, Ballwin, MO 63011.

To assure a place in the on-site convention childcare center, applications and fees must be submitted promptly as the openings fill quickly. Once the completed forms and registration fee for each child are received, a family ID number will be assigned and a confirmation packet with a family confirmation card, parent handbook, security information and procedures for check-in and check-out will be sent.

The postmark deadline for preschool childcare registration is May 21. Parents desiring to register their children after May 21 may print the required information and bring it to the conference, where they will be registered on-site on a space-available basis.

The SBC children’s conference, meanwhile, will be led by the Denton Brothers, a team of three brothers from Swift Creek, Mich., who perform skits, object lessons, stories, songs, crafts, games and juggling.

The children’s conference will begin Monday morning. With the theme “Hearts Under Construction,” children will examine the building blocks of a godly life found in 2 Peter 1:5-8. Kids ages 6-12 will help build an actual playhouse as an object lesson during the course of the conference.

To register, visit www.childrensconferences.com.

Also at the convention this year, students in grades 6-12 are invited to be part of a Centrifuge-style camp sponsored by Fuge Life-Changing Camps and Union University in Jackson, Tenn. Centrifuge has provided quality camp experiences for SBC churches since 1979. The theme of the SBC Centrifuge, which begins Monday evening, is “Interact,” exploring ways believers interact with God through prayer. Students will be encouraged to maintain a vibrant prayer life and will examine what it means to listen to God and pray without ceasing. Students will be in groups according to grade, with the breakdown being grades 6-9 and grades 10-12.

Centrifuge costs $40 per student, and they may register by visiting www.lifeway.com/fuge/sbc.asp. The camp, featuring morning, afternoon and evening sessions, will be in the White River Ballroom on the first floor of the Indiana Convention Center.

“Our goal has been to facilitate a biblically based conference for every age group for our children and teens during the annual meeting,” said Jack Wilkerson, convention manager and vice president for business and finance of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Executive Committee. “We believe that by providing training and instruction for all children, Southern Baptists will be encouraged to bring their families to the annual meeting.”
