Missouri Baptist messengers top state-by-state totals


ST. LOUIS (BP)–Missouri Baptists sent the largest number of messengers, 1,278, of the 9,609 who attended the June 11-12 Southern Baptist Convention in the America’s Center in St. Louis.

Other leading states were Tennessee with 836, North Carolina with 728, Georgia with 686 and Illinois with 609, according to unofficial figures compiled by the SBC’s registration secretary, Lee Porter, from the 145th session of the 157-year-old convention.

Last year’s final registration in New Orleans was 9,561.

For St. Louis, unofficial state-by-state registration numbers are: Alabama, 540; Alaska, 8; Arizona, 41; Arkansas, 405; California, 94; Colorado, 47; Connecticut, 6; Delaware, 2; District of Columbia, 8; Florida, 504; Georgia, 686; Hawaii, 12; Idaho, 7; Illinois, 609; Indiana, 129; Iowa, 38; Kansas,81; Kentucky, 567; Louisiana, 256; Maine, 1; Maryland, 71; Massachusetts, 3; Michigan, 47; Mississippi, 463; Missouri, 1,278; Montana, 2; Nebraska, 7; Nevada, 27; New Hampshire, 4; New Jersey, 15; New Mexico, 60; New York, 38; North Carolina, 728; North Dakota, 1; Ohio, 155; Oklahoma, 286; Oregon, 14; Pennsylvania, 33; Rhode Island, 1; South Carolina, 429; South Dakota, 2; Tennessee, 836; Texas, 568; Utah, 21; Virginia, 377; Washington, 15; West Virginia, 53; Wisconsin, 9; and Wyoming, 9. The territory of Puerto Rico had 5 messengers attending.

Two states, Minnesota and Vermont, had no registered messengers.

The largest number of churches represented in a state also came from Missouri, with 405. Other leading states were Tennessee with 350, North Carolina with 332, Georgia with 274 and Kentucky with 248.
