SBC Executive Committee, boards, ERLC, committee nominees announced


ST. LOUIS (BP)–Nominees to serve on the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee, the four denominational boards — International Mission Board, North American Mission Board, LifeWay Christian Resources, and Annuity Board — the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, the six seminaries and the Committee on Order of Business have been selected by the 2002 SBC Committee on Nominations.

Nominees will serve if elected by the messengers to the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention, June 11-12 in St. Louis:

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE (82 members): 21 nominations considered; 7 new members; 14 renominations.

Nominees with term to expire in 2006, replacing members ineligible for re-election include Royce J. Sweatman, minister of education of First Baptist Church, Harrison, Ark., replacing William R. (Bill) Elliff, North Little Rock, Ark.; Thomas M. Vinson, senior pastor of First Baptist Church, Winter Park, Fla., replacing Charles L. Roesel, Leesburg, Fla.; Paul R. Badgett, pastor of First Baptist Church, Pikeville, Ky., replacing C.C. Brasher, Benton, Ky.

Also nominated for term to expire in 2006 is Roger S. Oldham, pastor of First Baptist Church, Martin, Tenn., replacing Jerry N. Tidwell, Jackson, Tenn., who resigned.

Nominated for term to expire in 2005 are Ida South, layperson and member of First Baptist Church, Mathiston, Miss., replacing Amy M. Clingan, Brandon, Miss., who resigned; Jack E. (Eddie) Ferguson, layperson and member of Central Baptist Church, Henderson, N.C., replacing Ann W. Frazier, Roanoke Rapids, N.C., who is deceased.

Nominated for term to expire in 2004 is Charles E. Harper, layperson and member of Goodwood Baptist Church, Baton Rouge, La., replacing Gail Pucik, Baton Rouge, La., who resigned.
